Carol June Franks
"The Shelby County Public Library recently hosted its second children's writing program with local author Carol June Franks, and once again, it was an incredibly enriching experience. This time, the event focused on another one of her children’s books, A Silent Tree Remembers. Carol went above and beyond by inviting a member of our local conservation group to speak about the importance of trees, adding depth and relevance to the program. As with her previous visit, Mrs. Franks did a fantastic job engaging the children, encouraging them to tap into their memories of trees and unleash their creativity through storytelling. By sharing her journey as an author and using her own books as teaching tools, she effectively guided each child through the storytelling process in a way that was both educational and inspiring. The children left the session not only excited about writing but also empowered with new techniques to express themselves through their personal memories. Jeanette Fazzari Jones
"I recently worked with my library's Collection Services Manager to coordinate a visit from local picture-book author Jeanette Fazzari Jones. I would highly recommend her to any of you who are thinking about hosting an author program. he read and signed her new picture book, Meatballs for Grandpa. Then she led an interactive read-along which let the kids pretend they were cooking alongside the book’s characters. They continued to play with the kitchen toys long after all the books were signed. Jeanette also provided coloring sheets based on the book. Jeanette is a mom and kindergarten teacher, so she was very at ease with all of our kids. Most of the audience was in grades K-2, with a sprinkling of third, fourth, and fifth graders." -Mary Landrum, Lexington Public Library
